Spiritual Direction

“Spiritual direction is, in reality, nothing more than a way of leading us to see and obey the real Director — the Holy Spirit hidden in the depths of our soul.” (Thomas Merton)

Spiritual direction meetings are usually about an hour long (longer for a group) and typically take place every month or six weeks. Sometimes there is a fee, sometimes not.

The content of a meeting is not only the individual’s prayer but their whole life experience reflected on as part of the encounter with God.

Choosing a spiritual director involves many considerations and area advisers are available to help those in and around London to find a spiritual director.

The Centre has also created a Community of Spiritual Directors consisting of those who offer the ministry of spiritual direction and who have also agreed to observe our Code of Practice.   We have produced this Directory of Spiritual Directors which you can find Spiritual Directors who are members of the Community.  The directory will be updated on a quarterly basis.    If you would like to apply to be part of the Community of Spiritual Directors, please download the Community of Spiritual Directors Application Form.

What’s spiritual direction all about?

What’s spiritual direction all about?

"Spiritual Direction is the Contemplative practice of helping another person or group to awaken to the mystery called God in all of life and to respond to that discovery in a growing relationship of freedom and commitment." (James Keegan, SJ)

London Area Advisers

London Area Advisers

Contact details for our advisers across London who can help put you in touch with a spiritual director can be found in our document London Area Advisers.  If you contact an adviser, they will ask you a few questions to try and identify a Director who is likely to be a match for you.  They will then put you in touch with one of the Directors in our Directory and if required, they can make an introduction.   Most Anglican and Roman Cathollic diocese will hold information about spiritual Direction in their areas and you could look at their online resources.  Other denominations may do the same.
